BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson City Council passed a resolution on Monday night which gives city staff permission to apply for a U.S.D.A. Rural Business Development Grant.
City Manager Brandon Mersman says the grant program provides funding to support economic development activities and assist small and emerging businesses in rural communities.
He says the staff intends to apply for funding to establish a Downtown Business Improvement Program.
The local program would provide grants to eligible downtown businesses and property owners for façade improvements, equipment purchases, and other business development activities that support business growth and job creation.
Mersman added the proposed program would encourage private investment, improve downtown properties, and support local economic development goals. A local match is not required.
Mersman indicated the city staff will discuss a potential contribution from the Downtown Development Authority Tax Increment Financing Fund with the D.D.A. in order to strengthen the City’s application.
