COLDWATER, MI — A major infrastructure push will move into its next phase this coming Monday as crews officially begin a $937,198 full reconstruction of a heavily traveled section of Morse Street.
The Coldwater City Council previously approved the contract with Rieth-Riley Construction to completely rebuild the crumbling corridor stretching from U.S. 12 north to Smith Street. Funded through the city’s Act 51 Major and Local Street Fund, the intensive project is designed to replace the deteriorated roadway, upgrade aging underground utilities, install new curbs and gutters, and improve regional storm drainage.
City Manager Keith Baker emphasized that the strategic timing aims to accomplish the bulk of the heavy disruption over the summer months while nearby schools—including the BISD Career Center, KCC Grahl Center, and Pansophia Academy—are on break. In addition to utility and structural overhauls, workers will reconstruct drive approaches and pedestrian sidewalks along the busy north-south route.
Motorists and residents living in the second ward should anticipate temporary detours, shifting lane closures, and minor travel delays, and are urged by city officials to exercise extreme caution when navigating the active construction zone.
