THREE RIVERS (WTVB) – United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2093 members at the American Axle & Manufacturing plant in Three Rivers, have ratified a new contract, ending a nearly two-week strike.
The ratified agreement delivers immediate financial relief to veteran workers hired before May 31, 2012, granting them an instant eight-dollar-per-hour wage increase. That raise fully restores the deep pay cuts those employees reluctantly accepted in 2008 to help keep the company afloat during the height of the Great Recession.
The forward-looking contract secures substantial long-term gains and protects vital worker benefits over the next several years. Under the new terms, production wages will steadily climb to reach 30 dollars an hour by the year 2030.
Additionally, union negotiators successfully staved off any healthcare concessions, freezing employee healthcare costs for the next four years, while also securing an increased number of paid days off.
The union ratified that contract with 80% approval.
