COLON, MI (WTVB) – The 7th Annual Magic City Grill Fest is officially returning to Colon, Michigan, on Saturday, July 11, 2026, and team signups are now open.
Presented by the Colon American Legion, the annual BBQ competition and grilling festival challenges teams of one to four members to showcase their culinary skills across three required categories: Pork Ribs, Chicken Wings, and Ground Beef Sliders.
For a $100 entry fee per team, participants will receive essential supplies including health department certification, six racks of ribs, ten pounds of chicken wings, ten pounds of ground beef, judging boxes, and overall event support.
The tournament schedule kicks off with a Friday evening setup at 5:00 a.m., followed by early morning setup and grill lighting on Saturday, leading up to the critical first turn-in deadline at 11:00 a.m..
This years event also serves as an official World Food Championships (WFC) Qualifier, marking it as one of Michigan’s exclusive paths to the global stage.
The competitor who claims the title of Qualified Ground Beef Slider Champion will earn a prestigious “Golden Ticket” to compete in the Burger Category at the WFC in Indianapolis from October 15–18, 2026.
Teams will compete for substantial cash prizes under a blind judging system evaluated by culinary professionals and certified judges.
Category awards offer $250 for first place, while the overall Grand Champion will take home $300, and top contenders in the People’s Choice category can win up to $150.
