COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A severe weather threat is escalating across southern Michigan and northern Indiana today, with southern Branch County now upgraded to an enhanced risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms.
Meteorologists warn that a volatile weather system tracking through the region is capable of producing destructive wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Residents across the state-line area should monitor local radar closely as conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly heading into the late afternoon and evening hours.
In addition to the severe wind and hail threats, a flood watch remains in effect for the entire area until 2:00 a.m. Thursday.
Repeated rounds of heavy rainfall tracking over already saturated ground could trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas, urban centers, and small creeks.
Emergency officials urge drivers to avoid flooded roadways and advise residents in flood-prone locations to have multiple ways to receive warnings tonight.
