COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) — There will be a new School Resource Officer for Coldwater Community Schools when classes resume in August.
Superintendent Paul Flynn told the Board of Education on Monday night that Coldwater City Police Officer Brianna Hyde has filled the position previously held by Noah Aljabaly.
Flynn said Hyde is a 2016 Coldwater High School graduate who previously worked for police departments in Jonesville and Marshall.
Flynn was unsure what building Hyde will be assigned to. Antesar Azookari is the other C.C.S. School Resource Officer.
An agreement between the City of Coldwater and Coldwater Community Schools for two School Resource Officers was recently extended after it was initially approved six years ago.
Azookari was named the S.R.O. at Legg in 2023 after a $109,000 grant was made available by the State of Michigan as part of a $25 million statewide program.
But the program which supported 195 school districts, intermediate school districts, and public-school academies in Michigan ended after three years.
Flynn said in April that with the end of the state grant program, the district’s financial portion of the agreement will be paid out of its general fund.
