COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A judge has officially approved a single lake-level special assessment district for the Coldwater–Marble Lake chain, paving the way for property owners to be assessed for future dam maintenance and repairs.
The district encompasses over 2,700 parcels that have direct or indirect lake access along the interconnected waterway.
The judicial decision comes as the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has indicated that structural improvements, such as rock berms, may be required on the Coldwater Lake dam within the next five years to meet state safety standards.
While the creation of this special assessment district establishes a legal funding mechanism for the chain’s water control structures, no specific projects or immediate costs have been finalized.
Future costs, project scopes, and the exact apportionment for waterfront and backlot property owners will be determined during subsequent public hearings.
