COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan 5th district congressman Tim Walberg says the Supreme Court decision this week to revoke Temporary Protection Status for the Haitian Community has stirred up a wide range of emotions in Coldwater. Walberg says he has empathy for the immigrants who are facing an uncertain future, but at the same time, the US has laws that must be followed:
When asked if there might be any relief for the Haitian community going forward, Walberg said there could be, but it wouldn’t be immediate, and the ultimate relief could reside with the the Haitian government:
For now, those who have lost their TPS status are at risk of losing their jobs, their driver’s license, and all other benefits they have acquired since arriving in the United States, as well as ultimately facing deportation.
