COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for Branch County and all of southern Michigan.
Dangerously high temperatures combined with intense humidity are expected to push heat index values near 110 degrees this week, creating a critical risk for heat-related illnesses.
Health officials are urging residents to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and to check on vulnerable neighbors, particularly the elderly and those without access to air conditioning.
To beat the heat and stay safe, health officials recommend drinking plenty of water and avoiding caffeinated or alcoholic beverages that accelerate dehydration.
If you must spend time outside, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
Additionally, never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, as interior temperatures can reach lethal levels in a matter of minutes.
