COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A record number of Michiganders are expected to travel this Fourth of July weekend. AAA Michigan projects more than 2.6 million residents will travel at least 50 miles from home this weekend. The majority are expected to drive, which is expected to cause heavy congestion on the roadways.
As you hit the road, most locations in the state have gas prices above 4 dollars per gallon. Hillsdale County has some of the lowest in the state, with the price on average at $3.96 per gallon.
Branch County’s price is $4.07 today, with St. Joseph County at $4.03 per gallon and Calhoun County at $4.01.
The statewide average is $4.04 per gallon, down from $4.31 a month ago, but up from $3.32 this time last year.
The national average is $3.84, while across the border in Indiana where the state gas tax has been suspended, the average is $3.12 per gallon Thursday.
