LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Michigan State Senator Jonathan Lindsey, R-Coldwater, says more changes need to be made in the state’s budget process after the legislature missed its statutory July 1 deadline for the second consecutive year.
Lawmakers engaged in a grueling, 24-hour marathon session to pass a massive $84 billion fiscal spending plan early last Friday morning, and nearly a week later it’s not clear what was actually in the budget
Lindsey says when he was first elected he proposed a change in the law in the budget process to create more transparency
Lindsey says he believes state lawmakers could even take the transparency a step further
Lindsey added most members of the senate didn’t get to see the final printed addition of the budget until around an hour before it was voted on at 6 a.m. last Friday.
