COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced that the number of Cyclosporas cases in the state has reached 1,251, making it the largest outbreak of the parasitic illness in state history.
While a definitive source has not yet been pinpointed, the vast majority of the cases remain concentrated in southern Michigan. The Branch Hillsdale St. Joseph Community Health Agency said earlier this week they were investigating outbreaks in both St Joseph and Hillsdale counties but did not confirm the number of cases being tracked.
Michigan’s Chief Medical Executive, Dr. Natasha Baghdasaryan says they are working to track down the source
Baghdasaryan says the investigation into the source is complicated due to our massive food distribution network, she says the states public health laboratories are also searching for DNA clues.

In response to the growing health crisis, Taco Bell has voluntarily begun pulling lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, and cilantro onions from its regional locations as a strict precautionary measure.
The MDHHS continues to urge anyone experiencing persistent gastrointestinal symptoms to seek immediate medical attention and practice rigorous food safety.
