COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners brought forward a request from the Commission on Aging during their work session on Thursday to eliminate a part-time Programs Assistant position and change it to a full-time Support Services Coordinator effective next Tuesday.
Commission on Aging Executive Director Amy Duff said this full-time position would do the duties of the previous part-time position and would have some additional responsibilities. She added additional funding is not necessary and that this was needed due to a major program change in the federally funded State Health Insurance Assistance Program, otherwise known as SHIP.
Duff said the position would be a Non-Union Level 5 position working 35 hours per week. The duties would focus on the State Health Insurance Assistance Program, the oversight and development of support groups, caregiver events and resources as well as providing guidance to community members when they come to COA asking for a service they do not directly provide
Formal action by the Board of Commissioners is expected to be taken next week after the Commission on Aging Board approved the staffing change during their meeting this past Tuesday.
