COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Clerk Terry Kubasiak, whose terms expires at the end of 2028, has decided to retire effective this September 18.
Kubasiak succeeded Judy Elliot as County Clerk after she first elected to the office in 2004 and began serving in 2005. She faced no opposition when she was re-elected in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024.
At 63, she says she is ready to spend more time with her grandchildren, and will probably move to the Kalamazoo area to be closer to them.
Michigan law calls for Branch County Circuit Court Judge Zack Stempien will appoint Kubasiak’s replacement. That person would serve as county clerk through the end of 2028, with the new four year term up for election in 2028.
Kubasiak told The Daily reporter she will strongly recommend her chief deputy, Chris Ransbottom, to succeed her. Ransbottom has served in the County Clerk’s Office since 2009 and has been Chief Deputy since 2018.
