COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater is preparing to say its final goodbyes to longtime Public Safety Director Joe Scheid , who passed away unexpectedly last week at the age of 54.
City leaders, fellow first responders as well as community members will gather for visitation today from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at The Dearth Community Center. The formal funeral service is scheduled to take place tomorrow, at 11:00 a.m. also at the Dearth Center, allowing the community to honor his nearly three decades of dedicated service to local law enforcement and fire safety.
To honor Director Scheid’s legacy and allow municipal employees to attend the services, the City of Coldwater has announced that all city offices will close at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. During this time, neighboring agencies, including the Branch County Sheriff’s Office, will provide law enforcement coverage to the city ensure that Coldwater’s public safety operations remain seamless while Coldwater officers pay their final respects.
Following the funeral, interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, marking the final chapter for a leader widely remembered for his profound impact on both the city and its youth.
