BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A new location for the Bronson Polish Festival truck pulling track will have to be found in order for the event to continue next year.
The land on the east side of Bronson near the Dollar General Store that had been used over the last three years was recently sold by the city for new residential housing.
The construction of a storage unit facility at 150 Wayne Street forced the track to be moved to the east in the spring of 2024.
Members of the Bronson Viking Alliance asked the Bronson City Council on Monday night to help them find a new location for their fundraising event which helps out the Bronson Community School athletic programs.
Bronson Polish Festival President Candy Cox said the event should continue as it attracts people from as far away as Wisconsin and Buffalo, New York. One audience member pointed out the pulls have raised almost $100,000 over the last seven years.
Mayor William Rinehart said they support the event and pledged to organizers they would help them find a new location. After further discussion, Council members decided to hold an informal meeting in the next month with members of the Association in order to brainstorm some ideas.
The Bronson FFA started the Polish Festival truck pulls in 1992. When the FFA program dissolved, the Bronson Athletics Boosters took over the event until 2020.
The Bronson Viking Alliance was formed in 2021 to pick up the event after it had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
