BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – City Manager Brandon Mersman reported to the Bronson City Council on Monday night that the Michigan Department of Transportation has informed the City they plan to complete a chip and seal project on U.S. 12 through Bronson in 2027.
Mersman said in his report that since U.S. 12 meets the criteria for a road diet, MDOT has approached the City of Bronson about incorporating a lane reconfiguration as part of the project.
Under the proposal, U.S. 12 would be converted from the existing four lanes down to three. That would create a buffer between on-street parking and the travel lane.
According to Mersman, MDOT plans to host a public open house in September to present the proposal, answer questions, and gather public input.
If the City wishes to proceed, MDOT will need formal Council support prior to its submission deadline in November.
