COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – More renovations are coming to the Coldwater Rotary Softball Complex next to Max Larsen Elementary School.
The Coldwater Community Schools Board of Education approved the installation of a LED lighting system at the home of the Coldwater High School girls softball program on Monday night as they accepted a quote of $208,000 from Sourcewell of Minnesota.
While the Coldwater baseball teams have had the benefit of lights at Pat Lowe (LAU) Field over the years, the lack of lights at the softball diamond has forced some games to be called because of darkness.
It was mentioned during the meeting that the installation of the lights at the softball diamond is intended to bring the athletic program into Title 9 compliance.
Other recent improvements at the diamond include new infield dirt and the installation of a warning track in 2025.
In other business, the board formally accepted the Soft Start Calendar for Young Five’s and Kindergarten Students. The Soft Start is being held during the first week of classes to ease the youngest of students into the routine of a school day. Half would attend Monday and Wednesday while the other half would go to school on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.
The Board also approved the formation of a Girl Forward Club at Coldwater High School. According to girlforward.org, the national mentor program supports girls between the ages of 14 and 22 who have come to the U.S. as refugees and immigrants. The non-profit organization was founded in 2011 and operates out of Chicago and Austin, Texas.
