COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arrested Wednesday night following a high-speed police chase that reached speeds over 100 mph, according to The Branch County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident began around 8:16 p.m. , when sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on East Chicago Road. Instead of stopping, the driver fled the scene, leading deputies on a pursuit onto South Fremont Road before turning onto Dorrance Road.
The chase came to an end when the vehicle finally stopped on Dorrance Road, allowing deputies to take the driver into custody without further incident.
The suspect 46-year-old Steve Burger was arrested and jailed on charges of fleeing and eluding as well as operating while intoxicated (OWI).
The pursuit remains under investigation, and responding deputies were assisted during the incident by Branch County Central Dispatch and Coldwater Towing.
