Scott L. Young, 60, of Coldwater, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at his home.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. A private memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. for close friends and family. Cremation has taken place.
Scott was born May 10, 1966 in Muskegon, MI to Robert D. & Patricia (Scott) Young. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education from Western Michigan University in 1988.
He taught 20 years for the Coldwater Community Schools and was currently working as a Paraprofessional for Tekonsha Community Schools.
Scott had a great love of music and for the sport of football. He was an all-state football player in high school and loved to share his knowledge of the game with students, coaching JV and Varsity football at both Coldwater and Tekonsha High Schools.
Scott was an accomplished singer and awarded a music scholarship to attend college. He traveled throughout Europe singing and performing with a musical group after high school. He also had a love for theater, directing many plays for Legg Middle School such as “Bye Bye Birdie”
which was one of his favorites.
Scott was an avid Elvis enthusiast, collecting records and any Elvis memorabilia. He loved classic cars, having formerly owned a ’66 and ’72
Thunderbird and enjoyed watching Godzilla and old monster movies. He was a super fan of the Detroit Lions having never missed a game no matter what was going on.
Scott touched countless lives as a teacher and coach, brought joy through his singing, and shared his passion for Elvis with all who knew him. His lasting influence will be forever remembered as a person who cared deeply for his students. Above all he was a passionate and dedicated
father. His love for his girls was evident in everything he did.
Scott is survived by his daughters Bethany (Andrew Vowels) Young of Gaylord, Kathryn Young of Lansing; his sister Robyn (Alan) Kahrs of Muskegon; nephews Christopher Kahrs and Justin Kahrs and his former wife Shea (Nicely) Vowels of Lansing.
Memorials may be directed to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
