LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Organizers of a proposed constitutional amendment regarding voter identification requirements In Michigan have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court for intervention following a deadlock by state canvassers.
The group Americans for Citizen Voting sought legal review after Michigan’s Board of State Canvassers deadlocked on certification, affecting the measure’s placement on the ballot.
State election officials initially reviewed the petition following signature collection processes that garnered over 700,000 signitures .
Supporters contend that the review process involved administrative concerns and raised constitutional questions regarding signature verification.

The high court has requested responses from state officials to address the legal claims presented in the petition.
Jones says the State Canvassers were negligent in making a decision and rejected a number of signatures that his organization has proven to be valid.
With ballots set to be mailed out later this month for the November General election, Jones says time is of the essence
The ACV is seeking an immediate injunction by the Supreme Court to place the measure on the November ballot.
Justice Brett Kavanaugh asked the state to respond to ACV’s petition.
In their response, the state denies the allegations, maintains the process was proper and claims ACV is cherry picking issues by asking the court to ignore decisions in the campaign’s favor.
