COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A reminder that beginning after the Labor Day holiday there will be restricted access to the Branch County Courthouse.
The Branch County Board of Commissioners suspended board rules and formally approved a modified Courthouse parking plan that will go into effect next Tuesday, September 8 due to the City of Coldwater’s Hudson Street Reconstruction project.
Access to the Branch County Courthouse from Hudson Street is expected to be closed for about one month starting on Tuesday as the storm sewer is being replaced. Work on East Pearl started several weeks ago.
To complicate matters further, a jury trial is scheduled to start Tuesday in Branch County Circuit Court that will bring 50 potential jurists to the Courthouse.
County Administrator Frank Walsh explained the situation and temporary solution
Under Walsh’s plan approved by Commissioners on Thursday, the courthouse employees will park in the Roosevelt Lot across the street which will free up parking in the main courthouse lot for visitors and jurists. In anticipation of a potential muddy situation, a golf cart will be used to get the county employees across Pearl.
Walsh says the only exit will be on the south side of the main parking lot onto Pearl Street where a temporary ramp will be constructed. Drivers are being asked not to enter the courthouse parking lot from Pearl.
There will be signs placed accordingly to assist courthouse visitors.
The construction work is being performed as part of a major $2.89 million infrastructure overhaul.
The sweeping project will completely rebuild East Pearl from Sprague to Division, West Pearl from South Clay to Fremont, and a one-block stretch of South Hudson from US-12 to East Pearl.
