LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A study by the National Taxpayers Union Foundation says tariffs on imports are costing households in Michigan an average of $5,600.
The report notes the number is an estimate as consumers don’t directly pay for the tariffs and that is paid by importers, who increase prices.
Importers of merchandise sent to Michigan paid an estimated $23-billion in tariffs, behind just California and Texas.
The tariffs that were studied took effect in January 2025 when President Trump’s second term began.
