MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team twice overcame one goal deficits to beat Marshall 3-2 Thursday to kick-off defense of their Interstate 8 Conference title.
The Redhawks scored off a corner kick with 14:50 to play in the first half to take a 1-0 halftime lead. Coldwater evened the score at 1-1 just 37 seconds into the second half on a penalty kick from Abdulhamid Munassar.
Marshall retook the lead about four minutes later on a penalty kick after a handball by the Cardinals. Coldwater then evened the score with 12:43 to play with a goal by Romero Saintvil off a corner kick, assisted by Walid Ahmed.
The Cardinals got the winning goal with 11:12 to play from Abdulhamid Munassar, assisted by Riath Shaamala.
Jensley Norvilus had two saves in goal as Coldwater outshot Marshall 11-4.
Coldwater is now 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Interstate 8 Conference. They will play in non-conference action at Sturgis Saturday, then return to I-8 Conference play Tuesday at home against Parma Western on AYSO Night.
The Cardinal junior varsity team beat Marshall 1-0 with a goal from Sadeq Almater. They also will play at Sturgis tomorrow morning.
