COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Office has announced it will host a boater safety class on Saturday, October 3. The seven-hour session will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m at the Gilead Township Hall in partnership with the Gilead Lake Association.
Taught by Marine Patrol Deputies, the course covers essential topics such as navigational rules, proper fueling techniques, and watercraft crash prevention. Local authorities emphasize that the program aims to keep regional waterways safe by thoroughly educating operators before they hit the water.
Pre-registration is strictly required for this session, and a complimentary lunch will be provided to all participants.
Under Michigan law, obtaining a Boater’s Safety Certificate is mandatory for motorized boat operators born on or after July 1, 1996, as well as personal watercraft operators born after December 31, 1978.
