COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Gas prices in Branch County jumped another 10 cents per gallon overnight, reaching a average of $4.95 per gallon.
This sudden spike pushes local prices ahead of the Michigan statewide average, which currently sits at $4.89 per gallon.
Drivers across the county are feeling the immediate pinch at the pump as regional supply pressures continue to drive costs upward, making daily commutes and travel significantly more expensive.
According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan, the localized price surge is tied directly to unexpected disruptions at key Midwest processing plants. De Haan noted that a recent power outage at an Illinois refinery, combined with an Indiana refinery temporarily shutting down for planned maintenance, served as the primary mitigating factors that choked regional supply.
With these two major facilities offline simultaneously, regional inventory tightened sharply, forcing local stations to hike prices quickly to keep pace with wholesale market spikes.
