COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Michigan Gas Utilities (MGU) has awarded $10,000 in safety grants to six emergency response agencies.
The funding is part of MGU’s 2026 Rewarding Responders Grant program, which provides up to $2,000 per agency to help purchase lifesaving tools and vital public safety equipment across southern and western Michigan.
Since its inception in 2015, the annual initiative has funneled more than $100,000 directly into the hands of area first responders.
A major highlight of this year’s distribution includes an upgrade for the Coldwater Fire Department, which will use its grant to procure a brand-new multi-gas detector.
This will allow local firefighters to quickly identify and monitor hazardous environments, protecting both crews and residents during gas leaks and active emergencies.
Nick Krzeminski, vice president of MGU said “These grants mean more than just new equipment or one-time training sessions. Their true impact is felt when seconds are saved, damage is prevented and people’s lives return to normal because first responders had the tools they needed to prevent serious harm.”
