COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -The City of Coldwater began its scheduled fall hydrant flushing Monday as part of a routine maintenance program designed to clear naturally accumulating sediment from the municipal water lines.
City Manager Keith Baker says to minimize the timeline of the project, city utility crews are working across two shifts
Those shifts are running from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily.
Operations kicked off in Ward 1 this morning, and crews will methodically transition to Wards 4, 2, and 3 respectively as the work progresses throughout the remainder of the week.
Baker says residents may experience temporary water discoloration or lower water pressure caused by stirred-up, harmless mineral deposits in the system. City officials advise community members to avoid doing laundry, running the dishwasher, or using hot water while flushing is actively occurring on their street to keep sediment from being drawn into home appliances.
If discoloration does occur, residents should slowly run cold water from their lowest indoor faucet or an outdoor spigot until the stream flows clear.
