COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater Township man who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing three young children and possessing child sexual abuse material has been sentenced to at least 15 years in prison.
Acting Branch County Circuit Judge Brent Weigle sentenced 26-year-old Alec Heuer on Monday, following a plea agreement that prosecutors said carried the maximum penalties allowed under Michigan law.
Heuer pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving children under 13, aggravated possession of child sexual abuse material and using a computer to commit a crime.
The case followed a Michigan State Police investigation that included allegations involving children ages 4, 5 and 6.
Investigators also found more than 100 images of child sexual abuse and related internet searches on electronic devices seized during the investigation.
Heuer received concurrent sentences of 15 to 22½ years for the criminal sexual conduct convictions, with additional consecutive sentences resulting in a maximum of 30 years.
He must also comply with lifetime GPS monitoring, sex-offender registration and no-contact orders, and was ordered to pay restitution. Heuer received credit for 236 days already served following his January arrest.
