COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As fall harvest operations kick into high gear across Branch County, agricultural leaders and emergency responders are joining the state in recognizing National Farm Safety and Health Week through September 25.
Operating under this year’s statewide theme, “Safety Today, Success Tomorrow,” the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is urging rural communities to actively minimize the hazards inherent to one of the nation’s most dangerous industries.
For a heavily agricultural area like Branch County, the campaign serves as a reminder for farmers and motorists alike to slow down, share rural roadways safely, and practice strict precautions around heavy machinery and confined spaces.
Local awareness efforts are emphasizing a collaborative approach to keep agribusinesses and family farms resilient. Throughout the week, community members have access to free specialized educational webinars hosted by the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), which target essential topics ranging from tractor safety and health wellness to managing generational risks on the farm.
