COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The inaugural, global Give Like Dolly Day is officially launching on September 25, establishing a new annual tradition dedicated to honoring the late singer’s legacy of philanthropy and early childhood literacy.
Spearheaded globally by The Dollywood Foundation, the date serves as a clever nod to Dolly Parton’s iconic song “9 to 5”.
The worldwide day of giving encourages communities to rally behind local partners of the Imagination Library, an early childhood book-gifting program.
Locally, the Branch County United Way is leading the charge by turning the celebration into a week-long fundraising push to support and expand book delivery to area youth.
Director Nate Cranson says they currently on pace to distribute approximately 18,000 free books to children across Branch County this year alone
Although the books are provided and delivered by the Dollywood foundation it is funded financially by the Branch County United Way
Cranson says they had nearly 100 new registrations for the program in August alone.
Businesses, civic groups, and residents wanting to participate by pitching in whatever they can to sustain the program and ensure no child is left without a book can make direct donations via the Branch County United Way Donation Page using online options like PayPal and Venmo.
