MARSHALL, MI (WTVB) – Over the weekend Michigan State Police released details of routine commercial vehicle traffic stop escalated into a massive federal-level contraband seizure when Motor Carrier Officers pulled over a semi-truck on Interstate 69 near Marshall.
Upon investigating the tractor-trailer around 2:00 p.m., last Thursday motor carrier officers discovered 174 handguns with obliterated serial numbers alongside 92 bundles of suspected heroin.
The illicit narcotics weighed in at approximately 167 kilograms, or 368 pounds
.
Following the roadside discovery, the male semi-truck driver was immediately arrested on multiple drug- and weapons-related charges.
State police confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives work to determine the origin, intended destination, and potential broader smuggling network tied to the defaced guns and narcotics.
