COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A proposal to bring a new fountain to Four Corners Park has stalled after the Coldwater City Council deadlocked in a 4-4 vote on Monday.
The motion sought to approve Resolution No. 26-108, which would have awarded a $244,800 construction bid to CME Corporation of Fort Wayne.
City Council member Emily Rissman said now just wasn’t the time to spend that kind of money on a project that didn’t have a direct benefit to the community when so many are struggling financially
The total cost of the project was projected at $309,265, which included the base construction bid as well as an additional $64,465 for an equipment cabinet.
City officials had planned to fully fund the downtown centerpiece—which was slated for the southeast corner of the park adjacent to the Branch District Library, using Coldwater’s allocation of State of Michigan marijuana sales tax revenues.
Because the tie vote failed to secure a majority, the future of the park’s fountain remains entirely on hold.
