COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council has officially approved Resolution No. 26-109, greenlighting the next phase of development for a new covered bandshell in Heritage Park.
The resolution allows the city to accept a $85,400 donation from the Branch County Community Foundation, originally funded by the Robert W. Browne Foundation, to completely cover the architectural and civil engineering costs for the project.
Under the approved agreements, Scott Morrison of S. Allen Design will receive $36,000 for structural design, while Ohio-based CESO Engineering will receive $49,400 to handle the site engineering.
The project, which features a raised stage, rear storage, walking trails, and tiered amphitheater seating for 300 to 400 guests, has reached approximately 77% of its $950,000 fundraising goal.
Dr. Bruce Young, a high school classmate of the late musician Jim Stout, is working with the Stout family and community organizations to raise necessary funding says they are closing in on their goal and hope to break ground on the “Jim Stout Memorial Bandshell & Amphitheater” in the spring
This financial milestone is heavily supported by ongoing community fundraising led by the Stout family alongside a $200,000 pledge from the City of Coldwater, which city officials plan to fund using state cannabis tax revenue.
With design contracts now finalized, the project will move into its final planning stages to establish exact cost estimates and prepare the park for future construction.
