HASTINGS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team wrapped up a second straight Interstate 8 Conference title Tuesday with an 8-1 win at Hastings.
The victory gave the Cardinals a perfect 6-0 conference record, while they are 11-1-1 overall and ranked 13th in this week’s Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Division 2 poll.
Coldwater started slowly, giving up the first goal of the game to the Saxons with 27:38 to play in the first half.
Ahmed Norman tied the score for the Cardinals with 11:28 to play in the first half, assisted by Abdullah Ahmed, then Riath Shaamala got the go ahead goal with 6:58 to play in the half, assisted by Norman.
Coldwater got second half goals from Abdulhamid Munassar, Norman, Siler VanDellen, Johan Aburto, Ali Ahmed, and Leondro Sanchez, with two assists for Azzam Ahmed, and one each for Norman, Shaamala, Aburto, and Romero Saintvil.
Jensley Norvilus had six saves in goal, while Mackenson Berry had three, as Coldwater outshot Hastings 16-10.
The junior varsity and varsity teams will play at Lansing Waverly Saturday in their final road games of the regular season.
