HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale County District Court hearing for Hillsdale County Sheriff Scott Hodshire was delayed yesterday to allow his defense team more time to review a wave of newly received digital evidence.
The 59-year-old Hodshire, appeared briefly for a scheduled probable cause conference regarding two felony charges brought by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office: misconduct in office and obstruction of justice.
His defense attorney, John A. Shea, requested the month-long adjournment, describing the incoming data discovery as extensive and potentially a “game-changer” for the case.
The criminal allegations stem from a February 2026 incident where investigators allege Hodshire leaked confidential information regarding an active felony theft investigation handled by a sister law enforcement agency in Williams County, Ohio.
Court documents claim Hodshire compromised officer safety by tipping off a suspect and their family members about an impending search warrant.
While the sheriff has maintained his innocence and denied any wrongdoing, Judge Daniel A. Goostrey has officially rescheduled the probable cause conference for November 4, 2026, at the Jackson County 12th District Court
