COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers leveled a sharp attack against his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed, labeling him a “con man” over his campaign’s financial backing and controversial political associations.
Speaking during recent campaign events, including the GOP midterm convention, Rogers pointed to a California fundraiser bankrolled by the Soros family to accuse El-Sayed of executing a “long con” while masking his true ideological alignments.
Additionally, Rogers heavily criticized El-Sayed’s close ties to left-wing streaming personality Hasan Piker, a figure frequently targeted by Republicans for past controversial remarks regarding American Jews and U.S. foreign policy.
Rogers argued that El-Sayed is in total lockstep with Piker’s progressive views, claiming the alliance shows a desire to implement a “big socialist government”.
In response to the escalating campaign rhetoric , El-Sayed’s campaign has aggressively pushed back against the allegations. El-Sayed has publicly condemned antisemitism and distanced himself from Piker’s most inflammatory remarks, while emphasizing that criticism of the Israeli government should not be conflated with hostility toward Jewish people.
El-Sayed dismissed Rogers’ personal attacks as a diversionary tactic, accusing the former congressman of focusing on divisive culture-war talking points to avoid addressing pressing economic policies like inflation, healthcare costs, and manufacturing jobs.
