UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s Riverview Park has officially reopened to the public following a comprehensive redesign that makes the outdoor space fully accessible for everyone.
Funded by a $850,000 State of Michigan Spark grant through the Department of Natural Resources, the extensive upgrades have transformed the park into a completely ADA-compliant facility.
Visitors can now enjoy newly paved pathways, fresh benches, a modern drinking fountain, and vastly improved river access that village officials say is perfect for launching kayaks or tubing. A centerpiece of the renovation includes two new accessible deck structures that extend directly over the scenic St. Joseph River.
While the park renovations are mostly complete and open for business, village officials say that a few minor finishing touches are still on the way, including the installation of new basketball hoops in the near future.
The completion of Riverview Park marks just the beginning of a broader community initiative; construction crews are now shifting focus to bring similar revitalization efforts and outdoor accessibility improvements to nearby Heritage Cultural Park and the downtown Village Green.
