COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Road Commission Manager Jay Miller says a resurfacing project on River Road between U.S. 12 and Union City Road has been moved up to take place this spring.
The previous top project on the Road Commission’s list was Marshall Road between State Street and Jonesville Road but that work has been pushed back to the summer of 2022 after construction on the new Branch County Jail is done. Local funding will be used by the Road Commission after the jail construction is complete.
The projects were discussed during the Coldwater-Quincy Small Urban Task Force meeting on Wednesday.
The meeting was held so that local officials and interested citizens can provide input on the allocation of federal funds for use on eligible transportation projects in the area for fiscal year 2021. The Small Urban program provides federal Surface Transportation Program dollars to cities, villages, transit agencies and road commissions which are serving urban areas with populations between 5,000 and 50,000.
Coldwater and Quincy are part of a region that includes Albion, Hastings, Marshall, Paw Paw-Lawton, Sturgis and Three Rivers.
The Michigan Department of Transportation meets with local officials every two years to go over where grant money will be spent.
The $375,000 River Road project is mostly funded through the federal government. The local match for the project is 20 percent.
