QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Community School District Board of Education regretfully and sadly accepted the resignation of Ron Olmsted as the Principal of Jennings Elementary School on Monday night after he served in the position for over 23 years.
Olmsted submitted his resignation with a “heavy heart” and that it would be effective at the end of his current contract on June 25.
He said in his letter to the board, “It has been my distinct privilege to serve the students, staff, parents and community of Quincy for over 23 years. In February 1998, I left my position as an elementary teacher in my hometown and accepted the principalship at Jennings Elementary. I could not have imagined that Quincy would become a second home for such a lengthy tenure as principal.”
Olmsted said he will find something to keep busy after he leaves Jennings Elementary.
He thanked the Superintendents he worked for as well as past and present board members and went on to say the faculty and staff at Jennings that he has worked with over the years has genuinely been a blessing.
As for the students at Jennings, Olmsted said, “Finally, to the past and current children that make up who I am, you have taught me so much about why I went into education. Students at Jennings Elementary have challenged, loved, hugged, waived, smiled, cried, failed, and achieved, all helping me to better understand education and leadership.”
While Olmsted is leaving, the school board formally approved the hiring of Amanda Webb as the new high school principal.
