COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, Coldwater split their opening doubleheader of the 2018 season at Lowe Field with Three Rivers as they lost the first game 5-3 but scored three runs in the last of the eighth to pull out a 9-8 victory in the nightcap.
The Wildcats scored twice in the top of the seventh to win the first game. Hunter St. Claire drove in two runs, Porter Skidmore scored twice and Austin Roby doubled.
St. Claire homered in the nightcap, scored three runs and had three RBI’s. Skidmore pitched the last four innings and struck out five to get the win.
Bronson opened their season with a doubleheader sweep of Colon as they defeated the Magi 5-2 and 8-1. Ethan Cossairt and Brett Sikorski were the winning pitchers. Brenden Bell earned a save in the opener. Sikorski had two hits in the first game while Hudson Wotta drove in two runs. Kameron Haviland homered in the nightcap. Haviland, Wotta and Sikorski all had two RBI’s.
In girls softball, Coldwater was swept by Three Rivers 7-2 and 5-4 in their opening doubleheader of the season. The Cardinals were held to three hits in the first game. Coldwater jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap but the Wildcats rallied for the win. Darlene Horn had two RBI’s with a homer and a double. Tyler Scheid also homered for the Cardinals.
Bronson split their season opening doubleheader with Colon winning the opener 11-0 but losing the second game 6-5. Aubrey Ballou threw a five inning no hitter in the first game as she struck out six. Kaitlyn Czajkowski, Payton Robinson and Chaselyn Preston all drove in two runs.
Colon took the nightcap thanks to a five run first inning. Madison Ratkowski and Dakota Smith both had two singles.
