STEUBEN COUNTY, IN (WTVB) – Indiana State Police say two persons from Laramie, Wyoming were killed in the Thursday morning accident on the Indiana Toll Road in eastern Steuben County near the Ohio State line.
The fatal victims have been identified as 65-year-old Diana Hicks and 63-year-old Jay Zell Senior.
Hicks was driving the passenger car that involved in the crash with a semi which took place at around 10:20 a.m. about 12 miles east of the Angola exit.
Indiana State Police say according to a preliminary investigation, a 2016 Freightliner driven by 52-year-old Dawn Liggett of Mount Pleasant was travelling west when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center median into oncoming eastbound traffic. The semi then collided with the eastbound car that was driven by Hicks. The Freightliner rolled over the car as both vehicles came to rest in a ditch and burst into flames.
Hicks and Zell were pronounced dead at the scene. The blaze from the accident set the surrounding grass and field on fire.
Liggett was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with non-life threatening injuries.
