HOMER, MI (WTVB) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of the two men who were involved in a fatal traffic accident on Tuesday night south of Homer.
They have identified the fatal victim as 25-year-old Michael C. Humphreys of Tekonsha. He was the driver of the vehicle that went out of control and off of South County Line Road in Clarendon Township at about 8:30 p.m. and struck a tree.
Humphreys was pronounced dead at the scene. 33-year old Julian Cunkle of Homer was a passenger. He was taken to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo by helicopter with critical injuries.
The accident remains under investigation, but deputies believe that speed was a factor in the crash.
Deputies were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Air Care, Marshall Ambulance, Reading Ambulance and The Homer Fire Department.
