COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County has finally gotten enough governmental units in the county to agree to having a local Designated Assessor.
With Gilead Township becoming the tenth local unit to sign on, the County Commissioners are ready to make an appointment during their meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
Chuck Zemla of Union Township has expressed an interest in being appointed.
The county was unable to meet a December 31 deadline to get a majority of ten units on board as many townships were unable to meet because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s hope the state will accept the nomination since it was after the deadline.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman said recently if the state has to appoint a Designated Assessor, it will cost local units more money.
