COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Pines Behavioral Health has announced they have been awarded $352,000 from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to expand emergency services to all persons affected by COVID-19 in Branch County.
Pines is one of four Community Mental Health agencies to benefit from supplemental funding for Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Emergency Response COVID-19 Grant which was recently awarded to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
The grant was originally given to M.D.H.H.S. in April of 2020 and partnered with five community mental health programs at that time.
The supplemental funding allowed M.D.H.H.S. to include an additional four locations to participate in 2021.
Thanks to the additional funds allocated to Pines, the Mobile Crisis Team will be expanded to include weekend hours in order to better assist, or respond in lieu of, law enforcement in events involving mental health or substance use in the community.
The grant will also broaden service eligibility to include anyone affected by COVID-19 regardless of insurance status.
Additional therapist availability will be added to accommodate this expansion. Pines C.E.O. says, “We are grateful for this opportunity to be able to serve more people in our county, especially at such a critical time. This grant funding will help in making a positive difference in improving the health of our community”.
