BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings shook off a slow start as they dominated the final three quarters in defeating the Reading Rangers 54-36 in a Big 8 Conference girls basketball game on Monday night. The Rangers jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead before the Vikings used a 19-9 second quarter to take a 28-24 halftime lead. It was all Bronson in the second half as the Vikings outscored Reading after intermission 26-12. Haylie Wilson led the Vikings with a game-high 21 points. Karissa Gest had 13 points while Meagan Lasky added 10 points.
Also in Big 8 girls basketball on Monday night, Union City lost at Concord 59-33. Quincy was scheduled to play at Springport. No score was reported.
In other basketball on Monday, Coldwater’s freshmen girls team won at Vicksburg on Monday night 39-34. Leading the way for the Cards was Cara Miller with 11 points. Isabella Pool had 10 points and seven rebounds, Emma Porter had eight points and Cecilia Velazquez added eight points and 14 rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Sturgis Christian League kicked off their season on Monday night at St. Mary’s in Bronson. The Cougars of St. Charles Borromeo defeated the host Raiders of St. Mary’s Assumption 29-27 in overtime. Leading St. Charles in scoring was Jimmy Maynard with 11 points followed by Alex Richards with eight points and Carson Haylett with six points.
