COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In boys high school basketball, Gage McGuire and Dylan Targgart combined for 41 points as the Coldwater Cardinals stayed in the hunt for the Interstate 8 championship with a 57-52 victory over the Pennfield Panthers Tuesday night at home.
The Panthers put up a much tougher fight than the last time the two teams met when Coldwater romped to a 62-40 victory at Pennfield. Coldwater only led 20-18 at the half but used a 17-9 third quarter to open up some breathing road. The Cardinals won the game at the foul line as they were 27 out of 34 at the line.
McGuire was our McDonald’s Player of the game with 21 points which included a 14 for 16 night at the foul line. He also grabbed seven rebounds. Targgart had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Coldwater is now 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the Interstate 8.
Pennfield won the JV game in double overtime 77-69. Leading scorers for Coldwater were Noah Waterbury with 15 points, Jaxon Janusz and Dennis Winger both had 14 points while Tyler Scherer had 11 points.
Coldwater won the freshman game over Pennfield 60-44 as they improved to 7-7. Deandre Douglas lead Coldwater with 21 points while Kolby Wagner had 15.

Bronson 60, Jonesville 53 (Brendan Bell led Bronson with 21 points and 12 rebounds. The Vikings improved to 4-5 in the Big 8 and 9-5 overall.)
Quincy 59, Springport 29 (Will Dunn led Quincy with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The Orioles are now 9-1 in the Big 8 and 11-4 overall.)
Union City 46, Concord 43 (Grady Kever led Union City with 10 points. The Chargers improved to 3-6 in the Big 8 and 4-9 overall. Union City won the J.V. game 50-40 as Avery Stuart and Nolan Shaffer both had 12 points.)
