COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Lady Cardinal gymnastics team hosted a very tough Angola squad for their annual “battle of the border” on Monday night with Angola claiming a ten point win.
The Hornets defeated the Cardinals 142.425 to 132.425 points as Coldwater dropped to 2-1 on the season.
Coldwater’s team score was the third and final qualifying score which means they will be heading to the M.H.S.A.A. regional tournament in March.
Junior McKenna Hantz was the leading scorer for the Cardinals on the vault, picking up 8.5 points and a fourth place finish.
Abby Travelbee was fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 8.625.
Travelbee was third on the balance beam with a score of 8.85. The freshmen duo of Charlotte Calhoun and Gabby Schoch were fourth and fifth respectively with personal records.
Junior McKenna Hantz led the way in floor exercise with a fifth place finish.
Angola took the top three spots in the all-around from gymnasts Emma Schoenherr, Ashtyn Evans, and Audrey Wilkinson. Travelbee picked up the fourth place finish at 34.375 points. Calhoun posted a personal record with her tally of 32.875 points for a fifth place finish.
Coldwater will travel to Plymouth on Thursday for a non-conference meet against the Canton Chiefs, then return to conference play next week on the road.
