COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Quincy man was ordered to serve time in the Michigan Department of Corrections in Branch County Circuit Court on Monday for his latest brush with the law.
29-year-old Rastravanti DaCosta was ordered to serve 17 months to two-and-a-half years in prison after he entered a guilty plea to being possession of a weapon in jail.
He was given credit for 129 days spent in jail and a second count was dropped by prosecutors in exchange for his guilty plea.
DaCosta was charged after home made nunchucks were found in his cell during a search last August.
The sentence that was handed down Monday will run concurrently to the sentence DaCosta was given in November 2016. He was given nine month concurrent sentences at that time on charges of attempted uttering and publishing and forgery for trying to set up a check kiting operation.
He was also ordered 15 months ago to pay Century Bank and Trust $650 in restitution and was placed on probation for three years.
