GIRARD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A homeless man was formally charged with three counts on Thursday in Branch County District Court following a Christmas Eve confrontation with a man and a woman at their home on Dove’s Landing in Branch County’s Girard Township.
60-year-old Archie Wilson is facing home invasion, assault with a dangerous weapon and assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.
According to court documents, Wilson had been staying at the residence but was told he needed to leave. He returned and demanded entry in order to retrieve his belongings.
Wilson is accused of trying get into the home by using a hammer which broke some glass. The broken glass then struck the female resident in the face. He is also accused of swinging a hatchet at a man living in the home.
Wilson tried to escape on his bicycle and then decided to make a run for it but he was later apprehended by the Michigan State Police.
Wilson’s bond during his arraignment was set at $50,000. A probable cause hearing was scheduled for January 7 with a preliminary exam on January 14, 2020.
